History at Earley St Peter's

At Earley St Peter’s, we believe that history should be a vibrant and captivating subject that sparks curiosity in every child. We bring history alive through immersive learning experiences that transport our pupils back in time. Our engaging approach allows children to step into the shoes of historical figures, such as a World War II evacuee or a Stone Age hunter, encouraging them to explore the emotions and thoughts of individuals from the past.

Hands-on experiences are at the heart of our history curriculum. Children handle authentic artefacts, including Bronze Age swords, helmets, Victorian toys, and gas masks from the Second World War. They gather around a fire in an Iron Age roundhouse, delve into Wales’ mines, and consider the daily lives of people during these pivotal eras. By engaging with these materials, students gain substantive understanding and insight into what life would have been like in different historical periods.
Our practical sessions promote critical thinking, allowing children to analyse sources and develop disciplinary and procedural knowledge. At Earley St Peter’s, we inspire a love for history that enables our pupils to connect with the past in a meaningful way, while fostering skills that equip them for the future. We encourage our learners to think like historians by analysing sources and drawing conclusions based on evidence.
